For $5, today's side deal gets you admission to a cruise from Affairs Afloat (a $10 value). You must be at least 21 to use this Groupon. Cruises depart from Pier 40 at the intersection of West Houston Street and West Side Highway. Choose from the following options:
- Brazilian Cruise
- Tropicana Cruise
Affairs Afloat features weekly floating fiestas usually hosted aboard the Coast Guard–certified Queen of Hearts, a 500-passenger biodiesel-fueled party boat with a steamboat theme, full cash bars and cash buffets, and four flat-screen TVs.
The Brazilian Cruise, which sails on Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (boarding begins at 6:30 p.m.) until September 29, gives guests scenic views of the harbor and, depending on the Wednesday you choose, a chance to challenge new friends to a caipirinha-gargling competition as two samba dancers perform to the beat of Brazilian-born DJ Fabio Soul’s musical experimentations. Check the list of the Brazilian cruise's scheduled performers here.
On select Fridays, partygoers generally arrive at 8 p.m. for the Tropicana Cruise, an exciting after-work excursion that’s now in its 10th season. Until midnight, two DJs keep the crowd bouncing with R&B, hip-hop, salsa, merengue, and top-40 dance hits as guests wander around the boat, monitor the Statue of Liberty’s drifting patterns, and thrash about merrily on the gigantic dance floor.
Affairs Afloat’s water-top bashes must be reserved ahead of time and should be attended while wearing trendy/business-casual apparel, such as penny loafers and silk tank tops.
Bathed in the rosy glow of sunset, the Statue of Liberty seems eager to hop aboard the boat floating leisurely past her feet and take a turn about the packed dance floor. The joyful strains of merengue drift from the vessel, where a flock of well-dressed guests show off their moves and weave along the deck for a refreshing breath of night air. Dedicated to cultivating merry outings such as this, Affairs Afloat hosts a variety of cruises along the Hudson River and New York City Harbor aboard their two vessels, each Coast Guard certified for events accommodating up to 450 guests. Throughout the year, each themed cruise features live entertainment ranging from DJs to Brazilian bands and dance troupes, and a cash bar and cash buffet keep internal engines revved up throughout the evening. Guests unwind as they drink in unique views of the city, from glittering skyscrapers to the nesting King Kongs that call them home.
