About A Chat with Affordable Housing Corporation of Lake County

What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
AHC is a HUD-certified nonprofit organization that empowers communities and residents to rent homes, buy homes, repair homes and save homes from foreclosure in Lake County, Illinois.

Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
You will learn about qualifying for a mortgage, selecting the property that’s right for you and negotiating the sale, home inspections, insurance, property taxes, credit scores, interest rates, budgeting, home maintenance, the many details from contract to settlement, and much more.

What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
We’ll also provide an orientation to AHC’s forgivable grant programs. First time homebuyers who earn less than 80% of the area median income and who are buying a home in Lake County may receive up to $10,700 in down payment and closing cost assistance.

What do you love most about your job?
Upon completion of the homebuyer education class, participants may schedule free individualized homebuyer counseling to understand your credit report, learn how much of a loan you can afford, create a budget and develop a realistic plan to overcome barriers to homeownership.
