Q:

My daughter is 14 and she has darker hair on her upper lip. Is it age appropriate to have this done for her? Also, it is quite a drive for us and I would like to know what your prices are for facials (I am interested in facials for myself at the same time she would be having the hair removal).

Tanja P.  asked on  Mar 27, 2013

A:

Laser Hair Removal works very well for teenagers as it has less of a "pinch" than a wax, but provides permanent reduction of the hair. If your daughter is waxing or plucking the hair, she needs to stop at least 4 weeks before her treatment. Between treatments she may keep the area shaved and should shave the area as close to her treatment time as possible. Our facials range in price from $99-$125. When you call to set up your first hair removal appointment, you can schedule a facial at the same time. If you would like to learn more about the types of facials our office provides, feel free to call us at your convenience. (859) 335-1330 We look forward to serving your family!

Q:

Knowing it does not work on light colored hair, once the dark colored hair is treated in the chin area, is it removed permanently? Does the procedure result in eliminating new hair growth or does hair grow back in the treated area over time? If so, approximately how often does this procedure need to be repeated in an average person's removal of unwanted hair in the same area?

Sharon H.  asked on  Mar 23, 2013

A:

The laser provides permanent hair reduction. This means each time you are treated, you will be reducing the hair permanently. Each time you are treating the area, you will be reducing a certain percentage of the hair. Most skin types will have as much as 80% reduction in six treatments. Ethic skin may require more treatments. Once the hair follicle has been destroyed, it can no longer produce a hair. Some people, however, may have hair growth due to a hormone problem like PCOS. In those cases, the laser can destroy a large percentage of the dark hair follicles, but over time, the hormone can cause follicles that were producing fine, blonde body hair, to begin to produce darker, coarser hair. At the Ageless Center, we have numerous patients who manage their hormone hair growth problems by visiting us every couple of years to eliminate any new hair growth that their hormones have stimulated. If you do not have hormone problems, you can expect that the majority of your dark hair will be eliminated, never to return.
