Many healthful ingredients can fit between two slices of bread, including protein-rich meats, vitamin-saturated veggies, and fiber-packed cereal boxes. Nosh a nutritious meal with today's Groupon: for $7, you get $15 worth of sandwiches, wraps, desserts, and smoothies at Ain’t She Sweet Café.

Chefs at Ain't She Sweet Café blend fresh fruit into smoothies and nestle meats and cheeses into sandwiches and wraps, earning the shop a feature on a CLTV's Chicago's Best Wrapped episode. Owner Margo Strotter aims to offer a homespun alternative to fast food by designing a menu with some of her mother's recipes, including a made-to-order egg-salad sandwich ($4.25) more comforting than a hug from a domesticated bear.

According to Steve Cavendish of the Chicago Tribune, Da Steve ($7.50) sandwich offers a "superior combo" of turkey ham and turkey bacon with smoked and oven-roasted turkey on a toasted croissant. The sizzling spices of the Caribbean jerk chicken wrap ($7) contrast with the icy fruits of an Immunity Booster smoothie with nonfat vanilla yogurt and frozen blueberries ($4.20 for small; $5.20 for large). For dessert, a slice of pie ($2.75) finishes meals on a triangular, all-American note, like a game of baseball played on only three bases.

Ain't She Sweet's hardwood floors and exposed-brick accents give the interior a homey, relaxed atmosphere. One wall is covered in colorful paintings that amuse the eyes while distracting minds from attempts to telekinetically reinflate paninis.

Ain’t She Sweet Cafe

Located in historic Bronzeville, Ain't She Sweet Cafe reflects the neighborhood’s own heartiness with its menagerie of savory meals and sweet desserts. Lofted ceilings and hardwood floors contain the aromas of wraps, sandwiches, and paninis stacked with ingredients such as grilled chicken, smoked turkey, sun-dried tomatoes, and pepper jack cheese. Chefs also toss made-to-order salads with fresh greens and vine-ripened tomatoes, and blend more than 10 smoothies from real fruit and the proud tears of organic farmers. To ensure meals finish on the sweetest note possible, servers plate brownies, cakes, and pies, and blend milkshakes from more than 12 ice-cream flavors such as pistachio, chocolate chip, and strawberry. Ain't She Sweet Cafe's owners pair their passion for food with a passion for art, and often deck the dining room's exposed-brick walls with works made by local artists.
