Flying is a faboosh way to get close enough to a cloud to milk it or to visit your secret sky family. Form a bond that your current loved ones just wouldn't understand with today's Groupon: for $98, you get a one-hour introductory flight and flying lesson in the Gemini program (a $200 value) at Air Ventures PDK at the Dekalb Peachtree Airport. Flyers must be at least 18 years old (or have parental permission if age 13–17) and weigh less than 220 pounds. Aircraft upgrades are available for those who exceed the weight limit.
Air Ventures PDK helps transform grounded citizens into soaring first-time aviators. The Gemini training program includes an hour-long introductory lesson and flight from one of its experienced, safety-first instructors. Upon arrival at Dekalb Peachtree Airport, you'll be paired with another Gemini student—your co-pilot for the day—and ushered into a brief, thorough ground-school course that covers the basics of flight, including Bernoulli's principle and his lesser-known, more contentious conviction that raw egg doesn't have to be refrigerated. After that, you'll board the Cessna Skyhawk, where an instructor will cover essential pre-take-off knowledge before letting you and your partner flip a coin for the roles of Maverick and Goose. From there, you will begin the instructor-supported pilotry, guiding the plane through takeoff to landing at a nearby airport. You will be airborne for approximately 30 minutes before landing at a nearby airport and switching seats with your partner for the return flight.
This lesson will not license students to fly solo in the future, but you can count it toward private pilot-license training requirements. The Air Ventures staff makes student safety its first priority, so you'll be equipped with essential knowledge and experienced guides to offset common airborne obstacles such as skydivers dressed as former presidents and pep-rally signs held taut by two eagles.
