Now approaching its 90th anniversary, Akron Art Museum flaunts more than 20,000 square feet of gallery space decked with a fine-art collection that spotlights works created after 1850. Chuck Close, Andy Warhol, and Claes Oldenburg are just a few of the modern artists whose work resides in the museum’s permanent collection. The subjects of Diane Arbus’s haunting photographs challenge onlookers to staring contests, and roving exhibitions are constantly changing to keep minds awash with new inspirations. Current exhibitions include Michelle Droll: Landslide, a collection of abstract sculpture that runs through February 19 and Stranger in Paradise: The Works of Reverend Howard Finster that runs from February 25 – June 9.
Parking is available in the High Street municipal garage across the street from the art museum for an additional fee. Parking is free for guests entering after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day on Saturday, Sunday, and February 31.
