A ballerina's graceful balance is inspiring to aspiring dancers, captivating to houses of cards, and vexing to bulldozers razing cliffside condor habitats. Dance—the marriage of melody, mirth, and floorboard massaging—is majestically personified by Alabama Ballet’s dexterous cabal of dancers. Watch them harness heels and tame toes during a gripping night of four eclectic American dance pieces. The evening begins by commemorating the immaculately produced choreography of dance legend Agnes de Mille with two contrasting tales of spirituality: The Other, which entrances the audience with allegorical figures and haunting rhythmic movement, and Three Virgins and a Devil, which chronicles the devil-encountering adventures of three virgins on their way to join a nunnery and strike big in the oil business. Afterward, an arranged marriage is bittersweetly depicted in Antony Tudor’s Lilac Garden, and the evening concludes with Be Major, a work dreamed up by Associate Artistic Director Roger Van Fleteren.

American Masterpieces showcases the flurry of deft rollicking and memorable movements that helped put the Alabama Ballet on the footmap—and become one of only a few ballet companies in the world to be permitted by the Balanchine Trust to perform George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. Marvel at the graceful ballerinas and ballerinos before tossing a flurry of tutus on stage after a beautifully executed grand jeté, soutenu en tournant, or electric slide with today’s toe-twinkling Groupon.

Though Alabama Ballet sometimes offers a discount that may be a better value for students, this deal is still the best offer available for most customers.
