About This Deal

Legendary entertainers Kenan and Kel made theatrical history when they broke down the fourth wall, and then, to the consternation of the set designer, broke down the second and third walls as well. Experience the magic of the stage with today's Groupon: for $20, you get one ticket to Bear Country at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival on January 19 (up to a $40 value). Rodney Clark returns to his hit role as Alabama football coach and icon Paul "Bear" Bryant in this limited encore performance of a previous festival hit. Using a newly imagined and constructed set, the play follows the journey of Bear as he goes from sharecropper's son to acclaimed and admired college football coach. The theater itself also takes a starring role. The complex, constructed of more than one-million bricks, is set in a scenic 250-acre park featuring English-style grounds, a lake, and an authentic, invisible Loch Ness monster.

The Montgomery Advertiser, Playbill, and the WSFA News featured the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's Bear Country. Five Insider Pagers give it an average rating of four stars, and three Google Mappers give it a perfect five.

  • In football parlance, the world premiere of Bear Country, Michael Vigilant's new play about University of Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, is already a touchdown. − Kenneth Jones, Playbill
  • This was a truly wonderful "gift" by the Blounts and a treasure that will be used and appreciated for many years to come. – Chris S., Insider Pages
