Alaska Botanical Garden
Spread across 110 acres of spruce and birch woodland in Anchorage, the Alaska Botanical Garden has showcased northern horticulture and native plants since it opened in 1993. Much of the land remains in its natural state, though individual gardens have been added through the years and linked together by winding trails. From May through September—and sometimes into October—visitors can explore the garden's abundance of sub-arctic growth, including more than 1,100 species of hardy perennials and around 150 native plant species. The garden also boasts the new Anchorage Centennial Garden celebrating 100 years of gardening in Anchorage in addition to an alpine rock garden, a formal herb garden, and a family nature trail that's perfect for a day hike.
