Unlike regular artists, mixed martial artists question the existence of objective truth primarily using thought-provoking chokeholds and reality-undermining kicks to the sternum. Today's Groupon makes postmodern notions of identity say uncle: for $10, you get a general-admission ticket to Alaska Fighting Championship’s AFC 80 event at the Sullivan Arena (a $27.75 value). Combat commences at 7:30 p.m. on February 16, 2011.

AFC's popular hardcore fight-fests challenge Alaska's toughest body-busters to unleash their most furious whooping, fostering an all-out war style that prepares its savage fighters for larger showcases, including the UFC. In AFC 80's main event, Light Heavyweight champion Tre Leckbee dares Stephen Waalkes to come and get the title belt without getting belted. In the amateur three-minute round, Orlando Jordan and Aaron Bea also get their takedown on, sweeping legs and tossing elbows like janitors at a mannequin factory. Ladies get in on the devastation in the woman's 130-pound undercard bout, which pits Kloiah "Crazy Mama" Wayland against Kylee Smith.

Reviews

Five Ticketmaster reviewers give the Alaska Fighting Championship a 3.8-star average, and nearly 4,200 Facebookers are fans:

  • All in all it was a great experience for everyone involved. I highly recommend going to go see some fights in the near future with more friends. – Anonymous, Ticketmaster
  • What I like about the AFC is you can see the distinction in fighter disciplines in the earlier matchups on the fight card. When you watch for that it becomes even more intriguing. – Blitzem, Ticketmaster
