In 2010, the intense psychological thriller Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, became a surprise hit and made ballet sexy to a whole new audience. But, the film's haunting power probably wasn't much of a surprise for ballet fans; they've been flocking to Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake for almost 150 years. The composer's iconic score is just one of the pieces featured in recent films that the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra will perform at their Lushness & Lyrical concert. Known as "America's violinist," Grammy-nominated musician Jenny Oaks Baker will perform Bruch's Scottish Fantasy. Music director Kim Allen Kluge, a "visionary of our time" (The Washington Post), will also conduct James Newton Howard's score for Peter Pan and Smetana's Romantic masterpiece "The Moldau," from Má vlast.
