Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, attacks the nerve cells of more than 20,000 Americans every year. The resulting impaired motor functioning presents daily challenges such as difficulty breathing and swallowing and paralysis, often requiring extensive full-time aid from friends and family members. The horrific effects of the disease can put intense emotional strain not only on the patient, but also on her or his support network. The ALS Association's Oregon and SW Washington Chapter serves the estimated 500 area patients living with ALS and their caregivers by empowering them with educational and support programming, as well as advocating for global disease research.
The ALS Association’s respite-care program aims specifically to ease the stress on ALS caregivers by temporarily relieving them of daily duties with a mental and physical time-out. Respite services may include having a trained professional or facility provide care for ALS patients while caregivers spend a day away to focus on relaxing and rejuvenating. The goal of respite services is to prevent caregiver burnout and foster a positive environment for both the ALS patient and her or his support network.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help the ALS Association's Respite Care Program provide respite for the caregivers of individuals living with ALS. If G-Team members raise $750, the ALS Association's Oregon and SW Washington Chapter can sponsor one local caregiver, providing the caregiver with a daylong break from caregiving responsibilities. Each additional $750 raised will sponsor a respite for another caregiver.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
