For $10, today's Groupon gets you one ticket to see The Aluminum Show at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, April 19 at 8 p.m. The Ford Center is located in University, Mississippi—about 75 miles from Memphis.

Akin to performances by Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil, The Aluminum Show melds dance, visual theater, and fantastical illusions to tickle the eyes and imaginations of audience members young and old. Conceptualized by dancer and choreographer Ilan Azriel in Israel, the spectacle makes inanimate objects come to life through acrobatic dance and sophisticated design, with intertwined metal coils transforming into such things as centipedes, waterfalls, and a massive opera singer. Eco-conscious culture eaters can feast proudly knowing that much of the set and costumes are comprised of recovered and repurposed industrial materials.

Creative Loafing Charlotte featured a positive review of The Aluminum Show, and the Independent gave the show a glowing four stars in 2008:

  • As the metalwork stirs, the materials take on a life of their own, morphing from pipe-shaped strands into ghostly dancing forms. – Lynne Walker, Independent
  • An interesting, family-friendly (unless your kids scare easily) event that’s been compared to other popular shows like Mummenschanz, Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil. The Aluminum Show certainly makes you take another look at everyday, inanimate objects, – like aluminum foil – as it brings them to life in this hypnotic performance. – Anita Overcash, Creative Loafing Charlotte
