What You'll Get
Photographs provide a more concrete way of recording recollections than sketching portraits in sand or dictating memoirs to an empty jam jar. Preserve precious memories with today's Groupon: for $45, you get a two-hour twilight Vancouver photo-walk excursion and a low-light photography training (a $300 value) from Amanda Kerr Photography.
Amanda Kerr Photography captures fleeting moments and moveable memories with artistic shots. With today’s Groupon, buyers get a chance to learn the tricks of the trade from a friendly, professional photographer during a two-hour instructional photo walk beginning when the sun goes down. The first roll of 60 minutes is filled with instructional camera training to get customers fully acquainted with manual mode on their DSLRs. With the menu options mastered, participants take it to the streets with a 60-minute photo walk in either Gastown or Granville Island.
Along the flash-spotted stroll, a professional photographer will offer hands-on instruction to help craft creative shots. Each photo walk will have no more than five people, so while this means more individual attention, it also means that a six-person wheelbarrow race will never come to pass. Once all the shots are safely enmeshed within a digital cocoon, participants will receive access to a password-protected online gallery for image viewing and colour correcting. Check out the bounty of skills, terms, and techniques covered in class:
- Low-light aperture basics
- Low-light shutter
- Shooting in manual mode
- Light painting with your camera and a flashlight
- Tips for achieving a sharp image in low light
- White balance in low light

About Amanda Kerr Photography
While helming various digital and web firms in the corporate world afforded her many perks, Amanda Kerr couldn't relinquish her passion for photography and film, so she relinquished the corporate world instead. Since 2003, Kerr has been busy establishing a stock-footage business, getting her degree in photography, and helming photo shoots for top clients such as Eden Fashion Boutique, MAC Marketing, and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Her hands-on teaching approach helps students grasp photography fundamentals as well as new techniques, whether they're snapping professional-level pictures with their phones or harnessing their camera's flash to take photos of strangers kissing in a movie theater.
