What You'll Get
Before river rafting, thrill seekers that needed to be splashed to have fun were limited to dolphin wrestling and Gallagher shows. Today's Groupon celebrates exhilarating paddle-on-water action with a half-day Royal Gorge rafting trip from American Adventure Expeditions for $35 (up to a $70 value including taxes and fees). Though some sightseeing will occur, this trip is designed for active rafters who aren't afraid to use some elbow grease and get a little wet. American Adventure Expeditions recommends that you bring a swimsuit, quick-drying shorts, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and dry clothes and a towel for after your trip.
Each Royal Gorge half-day rafting adventure explores a 12-mile stretch of the Arkansas River's relentlessly flowing rapids. Caged by rock walls, the canyon hosts a watery grudge match of paddle-wielding rafters vs. humanity's greatest challenger—Mother Nature and possibly some cute otters. Bond with family and friends as you collectively navigate down stomach-leaping drops to emerge victorious. The trips leave from American Adventure's Royal Gorge Outpost, 10 miles west of Cañon City. Rafters must be 14 years or older if accompanied by an adult or 18 years old to go unaccompanied. Check out the trip itinerary and full details here, and upcoming scheduled expeditions can be found here. Call ahead to reserve your spot on the raft.
A certified river guide will lead each rafting trip, using years of experience as their compass and an eagle eye grown in a lab to point out landmarks such the world's highest suspension bridge and breath-robbing natural formations. In all, there are 12 miles of guided, world-class whitewater to navigate. Since you won't have much time for taking glamour shots amid the action, your trip also includes professional snapshots of your raft as you pass through the mythical Sunshine Falls rapid—where boys and girls become men and women, men and women become legends, and legends of all ages get their photos taken.

About American Adventure Expeditions
With diverse backgrounds ranging from studying extraterrestrial fluvial geomorphology to being born in the jungle of Chitwan National Forest in Nepal, American Adventure Expeditions’ certified guides shepherd rafters of all experience levels down sections of the Arkansas River, navigating rapids of varying intensity and trip lengths. Half-day, full-day, and overnight trips plunge into world-class runs such as The Numbers, an advanced route with powerful Class IV rapids gushing through tight passages and down steep drops, or the more family-friendly Class II and III waters found within Brown’s Canyon for mild bumps and splashing contests with ill-tempered salmon.
Guides also pair up aquatic excursions with other extreme thrills such as mountain biking and zipline tours for combo adventures, or skip the water entirely during land-based adventures such as the Royal Gorge Route Railroad train tour. Additionally, two outposts sit along the river, and offer snacks, restrooms, and picnic areas.
