What You'll Get
Though it's a good way to connect with others and a fundamental part of living near train tracks, pouring one’s heart out to strangers is an unsustainable career. Learn a more employable pour with today’s Groupon at American Bartenders School, located on West 29th Street. Choose between the following options:
- For $49, you get a three-hour Mixology for Dummies class (a $125 value), held Saturdays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- For $149, you get 12 hours of bartending boot camp (a $295 value), held in Saturday and Sunday sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
For decades, American Bartenders School has helped aspiring spirit-spreaders develop steady hands, sure eyes for measurement, and an encyclopedic drink-formula knowledge. During the Introduction to Mixology class, students master shaking, layering, and glassware selection in a realistic bar setting, complete with animatronic bar regulars debating whether Dick Clark is currently the president of Azerbaijan. Far from rote recipe memorization, students of mixology learn the underlying reasons behind certain techniques so that they can apply that knowledge when crafting their own blends. Pupils also gain access to the newest recipes for shooters, including After Five, Candy Corn, and Jelly Bean, and will learn tips on how to cure hangovers and hiccups.
During the longer weekend sessions, ginslingers deepen their liquor vocabularies and gain further hands-on experience by pouring shots and stirring highballs. Though real liquor is not used during the classes, the drinks are simulated to look and pour like the real thing. Check the FAQ page for more information.
To earn certification from the school takes 40 hours, but today's deal gives prospective pros a head start and equips amateurs with enough know-how to dazzle even the Count von Whiskey of Brandyberg. Those who continue with their suds studies benefit from American Bartenders School's well-connected job placement program, open to all graduates.
- I recently hired a grad from American Bartenders School. She knew her stuff and has become one of our best bartenders. I would definitely hire another graduate from the school when we have another opening. – joe j., Insider Pages
- Everything that I was told during the class was accurate, I was relayed a treasure trove of info about the trade and I was treated very well. – Desiree11, Citysearch

About American Bartenders School
For decades, American Bartenders School has helped aspiring spirit spreaders to develop steady hands, sure eyes for measurement, and an encyclopedic drink-formula knowledge. All of the school's classes cover basic mixing, garnishing, layering, and glassware selection in a realistic bar setting, complete with animatronic bar regulars debating whether Woody Allen is currently the president of Azerbaijan. Students gain access to a book of recipes for shooters, including cosmos, lemon drops, and jelly beans; learn how to make frozen specialties and hot toddies; and discover how to cure hangovers and hiccups. For the 12-hour bartending-certification course, graduation sessions are held where the instructors offer helpful tips on how to get hired as a bartender, before returning home with a mixology certificate, professional resumé, and the ability to set up and stock their own home bars, all of which make a classy addition to living rooms, lounges, and butler traps.
