What You'll Get
Air is earth's most mystical element, with an ability to invisibly transport savory aromas, radio waves, and children's birthday wishes. Set sail for magical horizons with today's Groupon: for $169, you get a four-hour introductory flight-lesson package from American Flyers, located at Santa Monica Municipal Airport (a $440 value).
American Flyers has been imparting aerial knowledge for more than 70 years through comprehensive pilot training. An FAA-certified trainer begins each introductory package with 30 minutes of ground instruction, then students step into an FAA-approved SimPro flight simulator for 30 minutes of playing pretend that, like dressing up as the Terminator, prepares them for future responsibilities. After extensive simulation, a Cessna 172 shuttles students into the air for a one-hour instructional flight, during which neophyte cloud explorers experience the thrill of taking off, steering the plane through the air's open roadways, and returning the aircraft safely to its earthen burrow. Postflight, education continues as a Flying Professor instruction simulator covers the basics of aerodynamics, navigation, and flight procedures. The two-hour Flying Professor session may be scheduled for a different day if desired.
American Flyers operates flight-training facilities across the United States. Its full-service instruction facility at Santa Monica Municipal Airport offers classes for complete pilot certification, instructor certification, and many other advanced courses, providing ample room for airborne advancement after introductory instruction ends.

About American Flyers
Though most kids dream of one day being a pilot, very few ever get a chance behind the cockpit. The team at American Flyers seeks to change that by training students to obtain a pilot’s license or merely try out their skills in an introductory lesson. The flight schools’ numerous locations feature flight-training software, online courses, and pigeon mentors to grant students numerous ways to learn how to fly.
