The history of theater goes all the way back to the 1970s, when audiences were eager to see "living movies." See how far these unfilmed talkabouts have come in only 40 years with today's Groupon: for $15, you get one ticket to both the One-Act Local Playwright Showcase and Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor at the American Repertory Theater of Western New York on Main Street in Buffalo (up to a $30 value). You can use your Groupon to see any performance during each play's run as long as tickets are available. Check out the theater's website for show dates and times. Groupon customers must call the box office prior to show attendance in order to redeem tickets.

Touting itself as a "21st century theater", the American Repertory Theater of WNY summons intellectual innovation while kindling community dialogue with full seasons of time-tested classics and contemporary works, bolstering an exciting new generation of playmakers. Art aficionados can fatten up starving artistes at the company's One-Act Local Playwright Showcase, which features new work from award-winning playwrights. Local board treaders populate these three short plays that explore titanic themes of identity, art, and fame while eschewing powdered wigs and antiquated stage-stilts.

Return in May for slapstick sage Neil Simon's autobiographical chuckle factory, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, which documents the travails of a troupe of television stars during the laughter box's golden age in the early 1950s. All performances are held at the theater's Buffalo East space and seating is general admission, ensuring tardy patrons won't derail key scenes when loudly apologizing for crowd surfing over seated audience members.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
