What You'll Get
Unlike a bad houseguest, delicious food is appreciated at the dinner table and generally only uses one pot of hot water at a time. Escape domestic dilemmas with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of bistro fare at Americano in Bratenahl.
Executive chef Vytauras Sasnauskas serves up a menu bejeweled with reinterpreted bistro classics crafted with as many local ingredients as possible. Ocean-dreaming taste buds can start with the blue crab cakes, small disks of breaded beauty complemented by cabbage-and-poppy-seed slaw, a thick red-pepper coulis, and creamy aioli ($10). For entrees, Americano prepares a host of inventively decadent dishes, such as the espresso-rubbed grilled hanger steak covered in a root-beer-bourbon steak sauce ($18) and the long-bone pork chop and waffles, a perfectly sizzled cut accompanied by a whole-grain sweet-potato waffle whose nooks are filled with pecan-maple butter and a maple-pomegranate reduction ($20). Americano’s elegant midcentury French dining room features period photos and spacious table placements, allowing patrons the romantic privacy to practice romantic footsie arts.

Hailed by Cleveland Magazine as possessing “a culinary sixth sense when it comes to flavor,” Americano chef Vytauras Sasnauskas honed his culinary skills under the tutelage of Loretta Paganini, the celebrated founder of Chesterland’s Loretta Paganini School of Cooking. With roots in Cleveland’s culinary scene that extend back to 1996, it makes sense that Sasnauskas prizes locally harvested ingredients for his menu of daring bistro cuisine. Succulent cuts of beef are drizzled with creative sauces such as brûléed fig and gorgonzola, and traditional comfort foods are reimagined, such as mac 'n' cheese with gourmet flourishes of truffle oil and melted brie. Servers are happy to recommend pairings from a vast drink list that features old-fashioned cocktails and dozens of wines.
Americano is tucked away inside One Bratenahl Place, which creates a secluded vibe. With its smoked mirrors and heavy wooden chairs, the classically elegant dining room serves to tether the whimsical cuisine.
