New England is serious about its seafood, so much so that a lobster served as Maine’s state bird and lieutenant governor until 1895. Taste a distinguished tradition with this Groupon.
$35 for dinner for two (up to $70 value)
- One shared appetizer
- Two entrees
When inside Amrheins, take a moment between sips of Napa Valley wine to soak in your surroundings. The restaurant—which opened in 1890—is a piece of living history. It lays claim to the first beer pump in Boston, and bartenders will tell you that their hand-carved bar is the oldest in America. That's not to say Amrheins is stuck in the past. If anything, there's something timeless about the restaurant. Its stained wood walls, curved leather booths, white tablecloths, and outdoor summertime seating seem fit for patrons from any era. Likewise, Chef Matt Lancaster cooks traditional New England comfort foods that have stood the test of time—with a few twists along the way.
Chef Lancaster blankets the shepherd's pie in a Guinness gravy and bakes fresh Maine lobster into his lobster mac, which comes covered in a three-cheese sauce. One of his most inventive dishes arrives at dessert: a cookie pot pie that fills a puff pastry crust with homemade chocolate-chunk cookies, ice cream, and berries as fresh as a toddler's first sarcastic remark. The menu changes a bit outside of dinner. Lunch brings meatloaf sandwiches, while the tone shifts completely from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. That's when Chef Lancaster and his team set up omelet and meat-carving stations for brunch.

“The wait wasn't long at all We made reservations and got there early and we're able to be seated early too The waitstaff and other employees were friendly and prompt with everything The selection was excellent as well as the food being amazing The atmosphere was great as well and free parking was impressive too as well Although they do have outside dining we dined indoors 5 stars out of 5 stars from me I'd recommend their special with chicken and rizzotto inside a pumpkin Excellent way to start off the new season”

“Without the Groupon this would be quite pricy (you also get a printout of the full bill, so you know how much to tip, that's how you know) We had 1 prosecco in addition to the groupon deal and would have paid above 80$ total regularly (the 1 drink, 1 starter, 2 entrees) The food is good (not very good, not excellent) Definitely not worth the money they usually ask for I had a steak (ordered medium-well, got well) with a sauce Bernais that tasted like out of a package I also have had better mussels before The big plus, the waitress was excellent Very friendly but not unnaturally Felt honestly interested in the guests comfort She would be the reason I would come back So overall: With the Groupon a good deal, otherwise consider to bring your money elsewhere”
