Walking backward while talking is useful for leading a tour, demonstrating a moonwalk, or retreating from a room full of ominously staring toddlers. See the reverse saunter put to good use with today's Groupon: for $85, you get one space in the Goldfield Ghost Town workshop, a walking photo tour of the town from the Ancient Light Gallery (a $199 value).
Under the visual guidance of award-winning photographer and Ancient Light Gallery owner Cheyenne L. Rouse, novice and seasoned photographers glean clearer understandings of how to turn historic scenescapes and buildings into images of elevated art. Bring your point-and-shoot camera, 35 mm gem, or cherry-red View-Master and a tripod to the Goldfield Ghost Town workshop, a three-hour walking exploration of the Goldfield Ghost Town & Mines. Rouse leads a caravan of 2 to 10 students, focusing on how to work with composition, angles, and natural light. Viewfinders will take in the Superstition Mountains, stagecoaches, an old train station, weather-beaten cars, a cemetery, the old mining shacks of the Goldfield Mines, the Church on the Mount, and ghosts in search of new audition headshots. Rouse believes that the beauty of place is entrenched in simple details. During each walk, she will share her secrets on shooting-gallery-worthy images ready-made for pixilated ardor. A basic understanding of your camera's features is required, and the registration fee includes entrance fees for one location and bottled water. Call ahead to register for the workshop, which commences Sundays, April 24, May 8, and May 15, weather permitting, at 3 p.m. at Goldfield Ghost Town in front of the Goldfield train station.
This Groupon also gets you an additional 20% off the class Turn Your Photographs into Fine Art if purchased on the same day as the walking tour or upon registration ($175 regular price).
