Young Artists will Explore, cultivate and creatively expand in the Performing Arts with The Kelly Chauncey Teen Theater Experience. Students age 13-17 will study Acting Techniques and Advanced Fundamentals, Script Creation and Cold Readings, Moment to Moment Acting, Sense Memory, Audition Preparation, Monologue Performance , Layer By Layer Character Development, Dramatic & Musical Theater Performance and Choreography . Using Kelly Chauncey’s proven method in an inclusive artistically nurturing environment, students will discover the many aspects of the performance of Theater Arts, finding a place to explore, participate, and grow, even if they may not yet be totally comfortable on stage in front of an audience. Young artists will learn the intrinsic value of Theater Arts as a life skill, regardless of their chosen high school, college or career paths. Intermediate and advanced young Artists will continue to strengthen their craft, learning techniques critical to their continued discovery of the emotional layers within them that will guide them in bringing any character to life. All will learn that Acting is NOT pretending, Acting is BECOMING..Acting IS. About The Kelly Chauncey's Teen Theatre Experience
Kelly Chauncey ArtisticDirector/ Choreographer/ Instructor/Writer He is a product of The Howard University Children’s Theater & Playmakers Repertory Company from 1978-1982. In 1983 he joined The Young Voices of Washington, DC, a Gospel Theater Ministry. While in Middle School, he became the voice on the DC Walker Safety Films while simultaneously portraying himself in the weekly WETA FM Children’s show ”Songs Jumping In My Mouth” alongside Yeardley Smith (voice of Lisa Simpson on Fox TV’s long running animated sitcom “The Simpsons). He was also a weekly Regular on WRC NBC’s “The Sunshine Store” and WTTG Fox 5’s “Newsbag” He later toured the Midwest with The National Shakespeare Players and has appeared in numerous Print Ads , Commercials and Voice Over Spots. In 2018 Mr. Chauncey served as the Assistant Choreographer for the WALMART “Light It Up Black Friday” national commercial campaign. Mr. Chauncey attended Howard University's Department of Theater Arts and later The Shenandoah University Theater Conservatory. While at Shenandoah he also served as Program Director for WSUR Shenandoah University Radio under the keen eye of International Speaker/Political Analyst/Commentator Elizabeth Colton/President & CEO at EOColton & Associates Global Collaboration. Theatrically, he has studied under Clinton Carbon, Kelsie Collie, Mike Malone, Dr. Henri Edmonds, Vera Katz, Laverne Reed, Ottis Sallid, Dr. Linda Wharton Boyd, Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis as well as Debbie Allen & Phylicia Rashad. Mr. Chauncey served as Artistic Director of Performing Arts at Dubose Fine Arts Studio in McKinney, Texas from 1997-2001. He held the same position of Artistic Director of Performing Arts for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Florida from 2004-2007 where he oversaw a bi-county performing arts program that reached more than 300 teens. He created and developed a teen performance troupe that became Ambassadors to the Arts for BGCBC and were featured performers at Gala Celebrations & Fundraisers such as Boca Raton Concours D' Elegance with Jay Leno, The Rick Case Automotive Group LUX Gala with KC and The Sunshine Band at Fisher Island, The Wayne Huizenga (former owner of The Miami Dolphins) Foundation's Annual Showboats International Rendezvous, and the Annual Daytona Beach/Fort Lauderdale Harley Davidson Bikers Bash presented by V-Twin Magazine. In February of 2015 Kelly Chauncey founded ANKH Repertory Theater. Later that same year he successfully negotiated terms with The City of Gaithersburg, Md to make ANKH Rep a Resident Theater Arts Performance Partner. Some of Mr. Chanucey’s own stage performance credits include Rollin' With Stevens & Stewart The Source Theater 93'; Jungle Rot (Texas Premier) Plano Repertory Theater Plano Texas 99'; Stand Up Tragedy 1989-1990, Polk County 01'-02', Anthems: Culture Clash In The District 02'-03' Arena Stage Washington, DC; and For Black Boys Who Considered Homicide When The Streets Were Too Much 05' Dad's Garage Theater Atlanta Georgia to name a few. He has directed numerous plays and musicals, toured as an Actor and Dancer and has a wealth of Print Ad and Voice Over experience. He has a special appreciation for working with Teens and Young Adults and has offered numerous workshops and Master Classes at High Schools and Universities in DC, Dallas, Orlando, Atlanta, San Diego, NY and Chicago. Some of his students have gone on to appear on That's So Raven, Sesame Street, Yo!GabaGaba, and various Nickelodeon projects. Locally his Students have performed at Arena Stage, Studio Theater, Olney Theater Center and The Kennedy Center. As an Actor, Instructor, Director, Choreographer and Writer, Kelly Chauncey continues to reach for new audiences and diverse theatrical experiences. His passion is exposing young and old to the ever transcending values of theater arts as a means to empower them to reach new levels of personal and Artistic Expression.
