Classes meet at Doug Sahm Hill. From there, photographer Anthony Maddaloni leads students and their digital SLR cameras to various local spots, which in the past have included BookPeople and the grounds of the State Capitol building. First, he shows his students how to use their camera’s shutter, aperture, and white balance, and helps them choose the right lens before bring their photographic visions to life. Afterward, students apply their lessons during a hands-on outdoor training that also focuses on finding optimal shooting locations. Classes are available Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to noon and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Anthony Maddaloni Photography

Anthony Maddaloni was a shy kid who naturally avoided the spotlight. When his mother became concerned about his shyness, she bought him a camera, and at 10 years old Anthony found his calling. Nowadays, when the State of Texas isn't using his photography services, Maddaloni is showing students the ins and outs of using film cameras, digital cameras, and darkrooms. In addition to setting up shots, his talents also extend to teaching the alternative printing processes prominent in his portfolio's vintage-style cyanotype, black and white, and sepia images. During classes, students can expect to experiment at a number of wandering classroom locations, such as BookPeople and the grounds of the State Capitol, where human subjects and photogenic landscapes bloom before shutters.
