Choose Between Two Options
- $179 for a two-day Avi 1 avalanche-rescue-and-safety course for one (a $399 value)
- $349 for the above course for two (a $798 value)
Conducted over one weekend at Rocky Mountain National Park and the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, the Avalanche Level 1 Experiential course reviews the essentials of staying safe in Colorado's winter backcountry. After completing eight hours of online coursework at their leisure, students undergo two days of field training in both avalanche-rescue tactics and strategies for safe snow travel. Though the course fee includes instruction and required readings, students must either provide their own equipment—such as skis, shovels, and beacons for blinding prowling yetis—or rent gear from Apex Ex for an industry-standard rate.
The mountain-savvy staff at Apex Ex equip people of all skill levels with the knowledge, gear, and plans necessary to explore the wilderness all year round. Seasoned guides and instructors, many of whom are trained by organizations such as the National Outdoor Leadership School and the American Mountain Guides Association, lead classes that teach students important lessons ranging from backcountry snow basics to avalanche rescue. In summer months, the experts lead guided climbing and backpacking trips and teach riders to careen down rocky paths of every sort during mountain-biking lessons.
