Similar to tickling a bear without losing an arm, the art of breathing underwater requires years of practice and dedication. Introduce your lungs to aqueous awareness with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get a "Discover Scuba" lesson at AquaSub Scuba Diving Centre in Richmond Hill (a $60 value). Classes are held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.
AquaSub Scuba Diving Centre has been throwing local landlubbers into the semi-deep waters of its home pool for more than eight years. During the hour-long "Discover Scuba" introductory course, one of the centre's passionate and certified instructors will strap students into the necessary equipment—included with the lesson—and lead them in a crash course on all things scuba. You'll become comfortable with using the technical breathing and swimming equipment, learn scuba street-slang, and absorb the basics of diving to assist you in your continued quests for underwater caches of pirate gold. All of AquaSub's instructors are members of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. You can use this class toward future diving certifications.
Though breathing underwater can feel a little strange at first, it quickly becomes second nature after a bit of submerged practice. Post-class, prepare to be able to shower for hours, retrieve all the coins from the bottom of every fountain, and diffuse nuclear bombs perched perilously above an abyssal alien city. Call ahead to schedule a class time.
You must bring a bathing suit and towel with you to your lesson. Participants must be at least 10 years old. If under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must be present. Participants must sign a medical release form.

At Aqua SubScuba Diving Centre, students train with the very same PADI-certified professionals who introduced Survivorman's Les Stroud to diving. When the team isn't spotting the famed survivalist during television shoots, they guide students to diving mastery at their own five-star development centre and local dive sites. Their introductory lessons begin with orientation sessions to ensure that students understand underwater safety guidelines, hand mations, and dolphin turn signals. They also lead pupils toward PADI certification with open-water dives and preparatory electronic courses. The staff can also offer referrals for open-water dives at optimal sites such as local spots or the underwater coffee shop used in the movie Finding Nemo.
For students more interested in above-water adventures, Aqua SubScuba Diving Centre also offers stand up paddle board rentals, sales, and lessons for all ability levels. Led by Paddle Canada certified instructors, lessons take place on Lake Wilcox in Richmond Hill, Scarborough Bluffs Beach, and on Georgian Bay in Collingwood.
