Water survival, much like a nudist colony, requires little clothing and the ability to calmly breath under difficult circumstances. Prepare your child for the water with today's Groupon: for $20, you get one week of swim classes at Aquachild Swim School (a $98 value) in North Miami Beach.
At AquaChild Swim School, infants and young children receive one-on-one swimming lessons and water survival skill instruction. Customized for each child's physical and emotional needs, the soon-to-be swimmer acquires aquatic aptitude through an instructional technique designed to harbor confidence and competence in the water. Infants 6-11 months are taught to roll over from a face down position like an unsafe minivan to a stable position on their backs where they can safely breathe. Children 12 months and up develop the ability to launch forward in a head down position, roll over to their backs and breathe, and whirl over again to resume conquering liquid emersion survival in a Swim-Float-Swim sequence. After obtaining a mastery of these skills, all children are placed in the water, fully clothed, and possess the capacity to recover from any position by rolling over to float on their backs for an extended period of time where they ponder daily productivity loss due to forced naps.
Year round swim lessons in Aquachild Swim School's heated pool typically last 10 minutes and take place five times a week. Do not feed children 90 minutes before swim lessons in order to halt a developmental tendency to associate swim instructors with meals.
Aquachild Swim School
The two founders of Aquachild Swim School—Scott Launer and Brian Lilburn—came to embrace aquatic education through disparate means. When Scott took his then 2-year-old daughter, Jaya, to swim lessons, he was amazed to see 10-month-old babies floating on their own and began his journey to becoming a youth swim instructor. Brian, who nearly drowned in a backyard pool as a toddler, learned to love the water rather than fear it after his mom enrolled him in swim lessons. Scotty and Brian now share their life-saving knowledge alongside a staff of instructors that are all certified in water safety, first aid, and CPR.
Through Aquachild Swim School’s specially designed lessons, infants as young as 10 months learn to roll from facedown positions to back floats where they can breathe easily, and 1-year-old students begin to swim with their heads down, then twist onto their backs for air. As kids progress, they learn the four major strokes (front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly), brush up on the basics to keep them confident, or start snorkeling. The instructors lead adult lessons to help older students learn how to paddle at pool parties or triumphantly retrieve their boss’s golf ball from a green’s lagoon during corporate outings.
