Located in Brighton, about 50 mer-minutes northwest of Detroit, Aquatic Adventures of Michigan gives terrestrials the sensation of submerged serenity, regardless of their level of experience. In the three-hour Discover Scuba class, students will learn the basics of scuba diving, including its pivotal role in ending the Seven Years' War. They'll then pull up to the pool for a dive, supervised by Aquatic Adventures of Michigan's half-dolphin, half-human instructors, all of whom are certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. Though the aqueous experts at Aquatic Adventures provide students with all the scuba gear they'll need for a dive, students are responsible for bringing a bathing suit and their own towel. Depending on the skills covered by the instructor, this class may be credited toward a future diver certification.
Over the course of a beginner diver certification course, students gain knowledge and maritime confidence through classroom sessions, skill development seminars, and four open-water dives. Upon completion of the course, all submarinal graduates receive PADI Open Water Certification—a certification that allows for accessible, autonomous exploration of the world's watery reaches. Most of the bulkier gear is provided by the dive center, though students are expected to supply their own mask, snorkel, fins, gloves, surface signal, cutting tool, and timing device, all of which can be purchased from Aquatic Adventures.
Meetup.com users give Aquatic Adventures of Michigan a 4.5 star average:
- The staff are [sic] friendly and really want to help you learn. I also felt like they don't hold you back. The instruction moved along at a good pace that I didn't find boring. – David Bavers
Aquatic Adventures of Michigan
Aquatic Adventures of Michigan is the joint venture of independent dive instructors Kim D. Parker and Tom Rhoad, who, after years of working with other dive shops, yearned for a place where they could stretch their fins, teach scuba their own way, and bellow sea shanties as loudly as they liked. Today, their PADI Five Star IDC facility is fast approaching its 10-year anniversary, and has grown beyond basic PADI training programs to incorporate everything from underwater digital photography to lessons in deep diving, wreck diving, and night diving. The shop's instructors are fully certified in first aid and emergency oxygen use, and provide factory-authorized service to big-name companies such as Poseidon, Genesis Scuba, and Dive Rite.
