What You'll Get

Sharks once roamed the land getting into fistfights with local mariners, until their embarrassing losing record shamed them back into the ocean. Now, you'll have to travel to their home turf. Luckily, today's Groupon gets you in shape for shark-fighting season: for $59, you get three days of Aquatic Boot Camp a week for four weeks—that's up to 12 hour-long classes (a $180 value) in which you will likely learn to breathe underwater or, at a minimum, above water. This Groupon is good at Aquatic Boot Camp's Southlake and Jewish Community Center locations; click here to see a map and schedule for each location. The next available sessions begin April 20 in Southlake and March 15 at the JCC.

Instructor and former U.S. Army deep-sea diver Justin Bradshaw ups the fitness ante by adding a new element to the traditional body-blasting boot-camp regimen: water. A typical session involves such easy-on-the-joints, hard-on-the-muscles exercises as pool sprints, weighted water treading, poolside exercises, swimming with fins, and brick diving. Justin will put you through the paces that helped him train to weld underwater, build things underwater, defuse underwater mines underwater, and more; expect to burn anywhere from 500 to 1,200 calories a session.

Aquatic Boot Camp is designed to push you to your physical maximum, but Justin also understands that everyone's maximum is different. You won't need to be a gill-augmented Navy SEAL to win the coveted Deep Sea Diver Award for your class; all you'll need is motivation, dedication, an iron will, goggles or a mask, swimming attire, a workout mat (optional), and a pair of swim fins (required, but fins can be borrowed subject to size availability).

Aquatic Boot Camp was featured on WFAA Dallas/Fort Worth:

  • "Instead of going to the gym every day and lifting weights or doing it by yourself, it makes it more of a group effort," said [boot camper] Allison Wright. "[It] pushes you a little bit harder because you're watching everyone do that and you think, 'I can do that too. I can do one more. I can push it out for one more time and one more swim and one more lap,' So, it's fun." – Janet St. James

About SGT. H20's CombatSwim

Trainer and fitness guru Justin Bradshaw modeled SGT. H20's CombatSwim after the rigorous training he received as an Army diver. His challenging exercises encourage full-body fitness, using workouts that build stamina, boost metabolism, improve swimming skills, and promote weight loss. Incorporating the best of land-based cross-training systems, CombatSwim includes plenty of high-intensity interval training and pulse-hiking calisthenics. In the pool, water adds extra resistance that amplifies the effects of the exercises, which include swimming sprints, endurance swimming, and treading water with weights. Designed to sharpen the mind as well as the body, CombatSwim leaves exercisers with the same confidence and conditioning as some of the world's elite military warriors.
