Arashi Judo Club
If you stacked Arashi Judo Club's black-belt instructors on top of each other, they'd be pretty tall. And when you stack up their years of experience, you have nearly a cumulative century of coaching and competition under those black belts. The four instructors have impressive résumés, such as Karl Larsen's time coaching at three national championships and a BC Winter Games, and Mike Kim's time on Team Manitoba. Now the coaches spend their time at Arashi training kids, teens, and adults of every level, whether they're new to the sport or have earned black belts so black that goths covet them as fashion accessories. Under the structured classes, beginners practice fundamental techniques like break falls, basic throws, and hold downs as a first step to learn more advanced techniques and build confidence. Arashi is a nonprofit that's associated with Judo BC, the province's governing body of the sport.
