What You'll Get
For $20, today’s deal gets you a Mesquite Canyon half-marathon trail run on March 12, 2011 from Aravaipa Running (a $40 value). The rocky run will take place at White Tank Mountain Regional Park in Waddell.
Aravaipa Running challenges desert dashers and their gazelle-like gams with long-distance trail runs. Breathe in the White Tank Mountain air and its endurance-enhancing particles on a half-marathon tour of Mesquite Canyon, a trail filled with rough climbs, massive boulders, and steep cliffs adorned with breathtaking views and talkative shrubbery. Light-footed loppers who finish the race will receive a commemorative gender-tailored T-shirt and medal, chip-timed results, and post-race edibles to refuel after sprinting, hoofing, and running-manning the single-path trails. White Tank Mountain Regional Park, which benefits from a portion of the marathon’s proceeds, charges a $6 entry fee per vehicle, and half-marathoners will embark on their jogging journey at 8 a.m. from the park’s group campground.
- What a fantastic weekend! Who would have thought that that cute and unassuming little mountain range found on the west side of Phoenix could have such amazing terrain! – ryan, RunningisGreat Blog
- This low-key event, put on by Jamil Coury and his brother Nick, is excellent and should find its way onto many utrarunner's calendars in the years ahead. Timed perfectly in mid-March and boasting about 7500 feet of climbing and warm temperatures (it got up to 83 on race day), this new event is an excellent run for anyone beginning a build-up to Western States. – AJW, AJW's Blog

About Aravaipa Running
You could probably run for three hours on a treadmill, but why would you want to? Brothers Jamil and Nick Coury—named two of the Arizona Republic's top 35 entrepreneurs under the age of 35—provide far more enjoyable running opportunities at the 20 long-distance trail runs they organize each year. They don't pick these courses, which wind through some of the most scenic terrain in Arizona and Colorado, by simply throwing darts at the earth from a helicopter. With more than 80 completed marathons between them, the brothers are experts at spotting the natural features that make for a satisfying run. These include steep inclines, sloping descents, and eye-popping views. Their events give you the chance to gaze on Phoenix from the White Tank Mountain Range or behold Silverton, Colorado, from more than 13,000 feet above sea level.
