Arbor Cases’ founder Bill Vander Plaats draws his lifelong love of trees from a childhood spent swinging from maple branches and basking in the shade of Arther, a walnut tree which fell in his parents' yard in Sheldon, Iowa in 2004. Inspired by the beauty of Arther's salvaged wood, Vander Plaats combined the fallen timber and his fascination with technology to create some of the first Arbor Cases. Today, the handmade covers ensconce iPhones and iPads with FSC-certified and naturally fallen wood from trees such as walnut, wenge, katalox, and padauk. The gadget vestments are hand-cut, refined with precision machines, hand-sanded, and etched (select models only) within Arbor Cases' studio. Each case is manually stained with three coats of a custom oil and wax blend for maximum sheen, which is enhanced by owners' fingers through daily use and run-ins with bags of chips.
