What You'll Get
For the Chicago area's low-wage workers, regular and systemic violations of labor laws can pose substantial threats to well being and the ability to provide for a family. Many in the local workforce lose significant portions of their wages every week due to employer infractions such as paying under the minimum wage, withholding meal breaks, and denying overtime wages, and yet fears of job loss and other retaliatory measures leave some employees feeling they are without recourse. Arise Chicago tackles the deep issues facing workers by educating them about their rights, supporting their efforts to organize, and helping them recover lost wages.
To promote educational outreach, Arise Chicago sponsors trilingual workers’ rights workshops, using custom curricula to empower the working poor. Presented in Spanish, Polish, and English, these workshops elucidate labor laws concerning wages and hours, discrimination, sexual harassment, and health and safety. Through these educational events, Arise Chicago is able to equip a broad spectrum of workers with the knowledge they need to defend their rights and wages.
Check out today's G-Team campaign and donate $10 to help improve conditions for low-wage and unregulated workers. If G-Team members raise $500, Arise Chicago can fund one workers’ rights workshop, at which 100 Chicago-area workers can receive their own Know Your Rights Toolkit, boosting their knowledge of labor laws and their ability to stand up for themselves. Each additional $10 raised will go toward other workers’ rights workshops.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
