Arizona Broadway Theatre stages professional theatrical performances before a roomful of tables peppered with fine meals. Director Jimmy Ferrano helms the production of Steel Magnolias, guiding the cast through a humorous, touching, and social-network-less story of friendship. Set in Truvy's local beauty salon, the play follows six women from different backgrounds as they unite to share their secrets, fears, love, and neighborhood gossip. Behind the scenes, Chef Allen Dowe directs his creativity kitchenward by crafting a menu to accent each new playbill and resisting the urge to spell out the ending in the noodles. Diners can begin the night with a choice of salad or seafood gumbo before erasing entrees such as the pecan-crusted chicken breast with sweet-potato duchess or a selection from the chef's vegetarian, seafood, and salad specialties, which all come accompanied with vegetables. Like the team of astronauts who scare away the sun each evening, dinner service begins at 5:30 p.m.
