CREATE at Arizona Science Center is a place where science, design, and engineering collide. The 6,500 square-foot community hub is Inspired by the productivity of an inventor’s workshop, the creativity of an art studio, the experimentation of a lab, and the connectivity of a commons. People of all ages can share ideas, collaborate on projects and learn about science, technology, engineering, math and art through hands-on challenges.
CREATE Challenges invite visitors to let their imaginations run free with 45- to 60-minute programmed challenges created by the center’s staff. Materials and tools are provided, so guests can immediately get to work solving the challenges.
Each person will receive general admission to Arizona Science Center and can pick one of the following CREATE challenges:
Edge-Lit Acrylic Display
Level: Advanced (ages 12+) Utilize the optical property of internal reflection to create your own light-up display. This activity will lead guests through the process of constructing the frame and circuitry for their display and allow them to light up a variety of etched materials including acrylic. Tools used include power drill, soldering iron, sanding paper, and hand tools, and runs between 40 – 60 minutes.
Learn to Solder
Level: Intermediate (12+ or ages 8+ up with guardian) Soldering (connecting electronic components with hot, liquid metal) is a fundamental skill needed to dabble in the world of electronics. Guests will learn to solder LEDs, switches, and batteries to make robot pins, jewelry, and more. Tools used during this 30 - 60 minute challenge also include a soldering iron and small circuitry components.

Arizona Science Center serves more than 500,000 guests annually, enticing them in with colorful multimedia displays and interactive exhibits. More than 95,000 square feet of learning space spreads across the multi-storied facility, giving adults and children alike room to expend their mental and physical energy on more than 300 hands-on permanent exhibits.
