Holiday lights originated with cowboys, who used them as lassos to reel in cattle rustlers, whom they then sold as Christmas trees. Continue this Wild West tradition with today's Groupon: for $5, you get two tickets to the 33rd Annual Christmas Showcase of the Arkansas Craft Guild, taking place Friday, December 2, to Sunday, December 4, at the Statehouse Convention Center (a $10 value).
Arkansas Craft Guild’s 33rd annual Christmas Showcase gathers 100 local Arkansas artists and craft artisans to display their wares in the Statehouse’s exhibit halls. Browse tables helmed by Craft Guild members and their guests, perusing unique and custom-made jewelry, paintings, wood carvings, blown glass, candles, ceramics, and a re-creation of Santa Claus’s beard made of smaller elf beards. Since the Christmas Showcase is a juried event, attendees shop assured of each piece’s quality and hand-craftsmanship. Shoppers waltz in 3/5 time with the crafts of their choice to live tunes woven by dulcimer picker Charlie Mink, a Mountain View native. A for-profit cooperative made up of Arkansas craftspeople, Arkansas Craft Guild aims to encourage and promote excellence in traditional, contemporary, and emerging fine arts and crafts throughout the state and its underground mixed pottery-arts tournaments.
The Craft Guild offers free admission on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., so plan ahead to get the best value from your Groupon.
