With more than 35 years of collective education, teaching, and gallery experience, the owners of Art Connects Art School strive to summon the inner Chagall in every aspiring artist through a host of classes. An artistic roster of one-hour children's classes offers tiered age options, such as the mother-toddler class, which helps tots to develop hand-eye coordination while challenging their moms to dueling portraits of the neighbor's dog. Playground painters ages 4–6 begin to recognize representational symbols and experiment with mixed media and traditional art, whereas 7-12-year-olds learn to express themselves through painting, pastels, and the art of the silent treatment. During two-hour classes, adults of all ages dip their brushes in a palette mixed with childish wonder and hard-earned wisdom, with the aim of lending concrete results to their experiences and vision.
The owners of Art Connects Art School harness what they believe to be the healing act of artistic creation, submitting it to both local and global causes and organizations. As a certified art therapist, co-owner Dianne Tennyson believes the creative process can assist in interpreting and influencing conflicts of the mind, body, and multipocketed paint smock.
Art Connects Art School
When she’s not teaching art to adults at Art Connects Art School's studio, Dianne Tennyson maintains a private art-therapy practice designed to help clients reconcile conflict through creative self-expression. The practice guides Dianne’s efforts as an art teacher, and together with her husband, graphic designer Eric Vincent, the creative twosome inform and guide pupils of all ages and skill levels. Twenty years of coaxing artistry out of students has taught Dianne to begin with the basics—developing discipline, eye-hand coordination, and artistic vision—while working with oil and pastel paints. Eric’s expertise includes drawing, acrylics, sculpture, and cartooning, making him the perfect instructor for superheroes keen on crafting self-portraits.
