What You'll Get
Art may be hard, but it's not as hard as backgammon, with its convoluted interplay of checkers and stones and rigid rules about when you can and cannot throw the board in the fireplace. Jump into a beginner-friendly activity with today's Groupon: for $40, you get two summer art-camp classes for kids at Art for Fun! Studio and Gallery (an $80 value). Classes are for artists ages 6–16 on Mondays–Fridays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Art for Fun! fosters the artistic ambitions of pint-sized Picassos during summer art-camp classes for kids. Owner and artistic pedagogue Barbara Becker leads pupils through a variety of fun, creative crafts in disciplines such as drawing, painting, and ceramics. Summertime advanced artists can also garner tutelage on more complex techniques, including fusing glass, mono-printing, and mixed-media collage-ing. During sessions, participants stay energized with snacks and juice provided by the studio and inspiration provided by the thimble-sized muses perched on their shoulders.
Regardless of the featured medium, classes are kept small so that students get focused, one-on-one guidance while unearthing their artistic abilities within the spacious studio. No artistic experience is necessary and students need not be blood-related to Michelangelo. Participants must, however, call ahead to schedule a class. Visit the studio’s calendar for a complete listing of class dates and times.
