Upon viewing Titian's Assumption of the Virgin, Michelangelo famously remarked, "I assume he's the virgin." Make your own artistic statement with today’s Groupon to ArtJamN, a “paintertainment” studio in the Cooper-Young neighborhood. Choose between two options:

  • For $130, you get a custom collage portrait from ArtJamN owner Maria Parham (a $400 value).
  • For $20, you get an art-entertainment night which includes a 16"x20" canvas and unlimited paint (a $40 value). Call ahead or email in advance to reserve an easel.

While Maria specializes in pet portraits, patrons with canvas-shy cockatiels can enjoy her skills in producing the animal-free subject of human faces. Maria will apply her artful reproduction skills to a portrait photo of your choice (or a design mutually agreed upon), which she will translate deftly onto a 16"x20" canvas. After six to eight weeks of tireless labor and painting, the resulting image of grandparent, child, or corgi will stand ready to adorn family rooms, car hoods, and pet beds. If your painting needs involve a larger canvas, multiple subjects, or more complicated concepts, this Groupon can be used toward the total price of the larger or more complex painting. Pricing for larger options can be discussed with Maria and determined on a case-by-case basis.

For those who'd rather get their own hands deep in the art muck, an art-entertainment night at ArtJamN is a creative and social option. The studio is a light and spacious affair, framed by clean walls dotted with bright paintings and twinkling garden lights. There, the paint-splattered staff provides the canvas, paint, and tunes, offering customers a choice between a freestyle paint-for-all and a guided painting session. With the latter option, guests will work on one of the paintings of the month and will be guided step by step in their artistic journey by a staff member, exactly like a student in the Renaissance. Regardless of whether you consult the calendar for painting selections or choose to be your own artist, you must call or email the studio to reserve a spot. At the end of the night, ingénue artistes take their paintings home, a shiny token of a night well pigmented. Guests are encouraged to bring their own wine and snacks, though the studio provides cups, napkins, and corkscrews, all of which an enterprising mind will manage to use in a one-of-a-kind paint creation. Check the website, as evening workshops are added regularly.

Today’s deal is for customers ages 18 and older; the studio holds regular hours Tuesday and Thursday evenings, along with some additional days, but groups of 10 or more can schedule other evenings by appointment.

  • ARTjamN is not an artist studio with strict rules. It’s a place to paint while you cut up, laugh and jam out to music. They call it “paintertainment.” – Tom Wilemon, Daily News

About ARTjamN

Although painting is a solitary experience for many artists, it becomes a color-strewn party at ArtJamN. Enthusiastic staff members encourage participants to interact, inspire each other, and even collaborate on the same canvas. Painters are outfitted with a bevy of paints and textures that add dimension to magnum opuses and make it easier to crawl into someone else's painting and take a nap. Both regular painting sessions and private parties introduce burgeoning artists to a cornucopia of artistic styles as they intermingle and sip from their own stash of adult beverages.
