They had a hard time controlling one customer that got black out drunk, and was getting paint everywhere--on people's clothes, coats, in their wine glasses etc. That was lame. But the idea is a lot of fun! And I had a terrifically tacky painting to take home at the end of the night.

Great fun doing the painting and such, but the staff could be nicer.

What You'll Get

Art and alcohol go hand in hand as naturally as milk and cookies, music and dancing, and baseball games played in houses of mirrors and apologies. Enjoy this timeless team with today’s Groupon: for $35, you get one ticket to a group painting party hosted by ArtJamz (a $64.29 value, including fee). More ArtJamz sessions will be added to accommodate demand, so check back with the ArtJamz website for upcoming redemption opportunities.

ArtJamz provides a unique studio where participants can spend an evening painting whilst enjoying libations and conversation with friends. Upon arrival to an ArtJamz event, you and your guests will each be handed a canvas, easel, paints, and materials with which to create a masterpiece you can hang on your office kitchen’s wall to show those pencil pushers just what kind of latent genius they’re dealing with. ArtJamz sessions last four hours. In between brushstrokes, feed the creative muse within by enjoying wine, soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres, all while you paint your lips and teeth with the purples of imbibed grapebloods.

ArtJamz aims to create a traveling art salon for everyday folks. Previously held at real-estate developments such as Loree Grand and galleries such as Corcoran’s Gallery 31, the painting parties thrive on music and nurturing hosts who stimulate timid and advanced artists alike. Time and location varies, so check online to find the session best suited to your busy hog-tying schedule.

Emily Miller, the Georgetown Dish > * Everyone was extremely encouraging. Some there were obviously more advanced in their art skills than others, but there were also many beginners (like myself) taking a shot in the dark. By the end of the evening, for all the people exclaiming that they were “not artistic”, there were 25 pretty incredible canvases sitting in the studio. –Katherine Delmonico, Washington Life magazine

About ArtJamz

In June 2010, after a late-night session of painting, drinking, and generally rousting about with a group of friends, magazine editor Michael M. Clements found himself pondering an unshakeable question: “Wouldn’t it be great if we could do this at a bar?” The seeds of ArtJamz sprouted almost immediately into a traveling paint party, where the caterers brought not only beer and wine but also all-you-can-paint palettes, for-sale blank canvases, and invaluable artistic expertise. In the years since that fateful, paint-spattered night, ArtJamz has become a citywide phenomenon, organizing collaborative events with the local museums, galleries and restaurants, finally realizing the founding fathers’ vision of a tie-dyed capitol building.

Although these creative enablers still operate pop-up events at galleries and retail venues across D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, the permanent studios in Dupont Circle and Crystal City have an open-house policy to enable paint parties every week. Freestyle paint sessions and classes are offered, charging separately for studio time, canvas, and drinks. Day hours keep artists aged 5–18 in mind, whereas nightly sessions feature beer, wine, and creative cocktails for the 21+ set. More than 20 distinct colors await inspired brushes, and the walls of the cozy venues are fair game for a fresh coat. A trained staff is always on hand to offer advice if needed or requested, and to make sure nobody loses an ear.
