A philosopher once called theater “the mask of convention over the face of society in the mirror of the unknown reflecting the rear-view of the sports car of destiny.” Simplify this theory with today’s theatrical Groupon: for $22, you get a ticket package (a $45 value) to Art Sanctuary & The Alley Theater, which includes three tickets to regular shows and a ticket to an improv performance. This deal also includes $2 off any ticket (up to four tickets) to the Alley Theater for Young Audiences.
Founded to incubate original ideas, The Alley Theater has been producing creative and alternative performances in the Louisville community since 1993. Along with its partner, Art Sanctuary, The Alley Theater supports the creative impulses and creations of local artists with unusual performances such as Evil Dead: The Musical, a live production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and a man sitting on stage filling out a medical questionnaire. Although the 2010–2011 season is already underway, there are three remaining productions to pick from, including The Looking Glass Wars, Women Behind Bars, a satire of 1950s B-movie horror, and Hughesical: the Musical!, a tribute to John Hughes and 1980s teen angst.
