About Artego Pizza
It's rare to see a high-profile restaurant owner single-handedly restoring the space’s furniture. It's even rarer when the owner is a former professional football player. But that’s exactly what Joe Perez did at Artego Pizza. He developed the menu himself, as well as constructed the restaurant in it's entirety through all recycled materials. Artego also serves as somewhat of an art gallery, displaying pieces by local artist, Alexander Austin.
As the Kansas City Star put it, “The hands-on approach permeates the space, perhaps most evident in the steel bar, which Perez found in a scrap yard, sealing and restoring it himself to make a fine centerpiece. The craftsmanship gives you a feeling that extends to the food.”
Artego's pizzas begin with a fermented crust, which is then topped with a wide range of toppings. One more traditional pie features Scimeca’s spicy italian sausage, salami, and fire-roasted red peppers, whereas one of the creative spins combines pepperoni, cream cheese, and white onion. The menu also includes gluten-free pizzas, calzones, and for dessert, pillowy folds of housemade dough stuffed with Nutella then cooked and dusted with powdered sugar.
