Without dance, people could only hum along to the "Macarena," and Jane Austen characters would be forced to say what was really on their minds. Let movements speak with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get one private group lesson, one group class, and one dance party at Arthur Murray Dance Studio's High Street location (a $133 value).
At Arthur Murray Dance Studio, expert instructors pave the way to ballroom mastery in six levels of classes, accommodating dancers of all skill levels. After a one-on-one lesson to gauge their ability, dance neophytes prance and step their way through the dance fundamentals in the Social Ease program. Bronze and Silver programs help students polish their timing, technique, and style and prepare them for timeless ballroom dances such as the foxtrot, two-step, and dancing to the song "Monster Mash." The masters of movement expound upon the science of groove by instructing on a range of other styles as well, with classes in the sultry Argentine tango, raucous swing dancing, and modern merengue.
After shimmying and shaking their way through the classes, a dance party affords hip-swivelers the opportunity to show off their moves among other newbies. The High Street studio's warm, aesthetically sound environment is ideal for engaging in private and group dance lessons and superbly suited to slicing and dicing a rug until it is no longer recognizable.
Though Arthur Murray Dance Studios occasionally offer discounts on their classes, this Groupon is still the best deal available.
Arthur Murray Dance Studio
Arthur Murray has been a leading name in franchise dance since 1912, when the entrepreneur began selling mail-order dance lessons. Expanding his reach, he enlisted teachers to spread his signature dance lessons on first-class steamships and skyrocketed to fame in the '30s after introducing the public to such dances as the Lambeth Walk and The Big Apple. By the 1950s, Arthur and his wife, Kathryn, were hosting their own highly popular TV show on ABC, The Arthur Murray Dance Party, which ran for 12 years. Today, Arthur Murray's team prepares students for rug cutting at special events and weekend nightclub jaunts. Clients who arrive to lessons partnerless will be paired up with instructors, then other classmates as the instructors assess their current skill level and make recommendations on the most appropriate program. Throughout lessons, instructors teach the foundations of two to four dances from a long list of styles that range from Ballroom and social to salsa, helping students to learn basic step patterns, timing, and the ability to lead or follow. The Columbus studio is owned by Michael Neyer, a former Arthur Murray Professional Dance Champion with over 35 years of experience as an Arthur Murray instructor.
