Western contemporary, butoh, hip hop and even Jamaican dance styles seamlessly shift and combine in award-winning choreographer Kota Yamazaki's latest work, OQ. Famed for his cross-cultural "cutting-edge performances" (Dance Magazine), Yamazaki brings his New York-based Fluid Hug-Hug Dance Company to La Jolla's Mandeville Auditorium for a performance of this inventive new piece, which is inspired by historic ritual poetry readings held at Japan's Imperial Palace. Fluid Hug-Hug was founded in 2002 with the idea that dancers and artists of many different backgrounds and disciplines would come together to learn from each other and create something fresh and unexpected.
