Q&A with Ashley, Owner Holistic Health Practitioner
What’s your favorite part about your job?
I'm grateful to work closely with families and to see their progression and transition throughout the entire spectrum of preconception, pregnancy, labor preparation, and parenting experience. One of my favorite parts of my practice is the couples massage workshops I offer, especially the comfort massage for pregnancy & labor class. This class is a wonderful addition to the childbirth education or hospital classes that clients might already be taking. This 2 hour interactive workshop is a great way for couples to connect before the baby arrives, while learning creative ways to support their overall birth experience.
What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?
Every client enters our relaxing waiting lounge and receives an initial intake form and consultation before we begin. This allows them to provide helpful information to make their session as effective and enjoyable as possible. During the massage, there are special pillows set up for optimal positioning and comfort and I offer tips, stretches, and ideas to support the day to day pregnancy experience. I also encourage clients to communicate their specific needs, and to ask as many questions as they want. I'm happy to offer resources and referrals!
What else should I know about prenatal massage?
Prenatal Massage is offered throughout all stages of pregnancy, however style of treatments will vary based on how far along you are and your specific, individual needs. To accommodate clients coming in for labor preparation, initial prenatal massage sessions are usually scheduled before 36 weeks and often booked a week to two weeks in advance. Prenatal massage blends therapeutic and soothing massage techniques for overall relaxation and rejuvenation during this special time. Studies indicate that massage during pregnancy may reduce anxiety, relieve muscle and joint discomfort, and even improve and support more positive birth experiences. Many people describe feeling very connected to their changing body, growing baby, and a sense of overall well being when receiving consistent and therapeutic massage during the transitional time of pregnancy. As you move closer to full term (usually the two weeks before or after your estimated due date) we offer our signature treatment called The Labor Prep Acu/Massage. This treatment gently supports and encourages the process that is naturally occurring in the body as it prepares for labor and birth. Visit our website to learn more!
