A Chat with At Your Best
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
I don’t consider massage therapists as my competition. I think of therapists as part of my community. We shouldn’t feel compelled to stand out so much. Just being true to ourselves and the people we serve is the best thing any therapist can do.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
The chance–the hope of all hopes–that I might be able to connect with people on terms that I can choose, not the terms of upper management. Running my own business is the best way to do that.
What do you love most about your job?
The idea of pursuing life at its fullest. That’s what I’m trying to get at with massage therapy. I love the image I get of my clients heading back to work and laughing with their coworkers, smiling at the dinner table, or going for a jog after an appointment. Cheesy, but that’s the payoff.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
We [therapists have] all been told at times by clients, “that was the best massage I’ve ever had,” and, whether it’s actually true or not, it always feels genuine and it’s a huge heart-warmer.
