A pair of world-premiere works highlight Ballet 5:8’s season opener, which explores what it means to be human. Acclaimed New York choreographer Preston Miller debuts his piece And Mercy, created in his signature athletic, contemporary style. The company’s artistic director, Juliana Slager, follows that up with her own new work, Mi Familia, a flamenco-style ballet that reflects her own experiences of being raised in an multi-racial environment. And this innovative faith-based dance company closes out their performance at Chicago’s Athenaeum Theatre with a favorite, the neoclassical Four Seasons of the Soul. Stick around for a talkback with the performers after the show.
