What You'll Get
A play-within-a-play, Satie et Cocteau follows surrealist poet Jean Cocteau (known for his novel Les Enfants Terribles) as he directs a play about classical music composer Erik Satie. During the "rehearsals," the audience discovers both Satie's desires and philosophies on art and music, but also Cocteau's ambition and desire to create this show. The drama, which borders on absurd and meta-theatrical at times, gives a glimpse into the connection between two real-life friends. See it now at Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago.
