About Athens Movie Palace
When the last movie theater in McMinn County closed in 2013, local entrepreneur Sekhar Reddy saw more than a business opportunity. He saw a civic responsibility to his hometown. Since then, the Athens Movie Palace has been delighting lovers of both new blockbusters and old classics with all of the little things that set it apart, such as the fact that:
- It's a Real Palace. Well, not literally. But it does have tall stone towers, distinctly medieval parapets, and a wall mural featuring knights and jesters. The fact that they treat their customers like royalty doesn't hurt, either.
- It's Got All the Latest Amenities. All five screens feature Dolby Atmos sound systems and ultra-plush leatherette seating.
- It's Run by Movie Lovers. Need proof? Come on the day of a major opening and you're almost guaranteed to run into ticket-takers, concession stand clerks, and ushers dressed up like the stars. And they go all out for special screenings of their favorite flicks from bygone years, too.
- It's Rooted in the Community. That's why they make a point of hosting adoption drives for the local pet shelter, and engage with their neighbors in other ways as well.
