With today’s side deal, $18 gets you a ticket to one of three upcoming shows at Atlanta Lyric Theatre (a $38.10 value). Performances are held within the beautiful renovated Art Deco atmosphere of the Strand Theatre in Marietta. Since 1980, Atlanta Lyric Theatre’s professional musical productions have captivated the imaginations of toe-tappers, whistlers, and daydreamers. Choose one of the following shows:
The All Night Strut! (2/19–3/7): Two sassy acts of musical revue, Lindy Hop, tango, and more. Revel in the sounds of the 1930s and 40s, with music from legends like Cab Calloway, the Gershwins, Hoagy Carmichael, Frank Loesser, and Duke Ellington.
Little Shop of Horrors (4/16–5/2): This hilarious sci-fi romp follows a lonely nerd who takes a hungry plant’s advice on how to get the girl. Also, the plant eats humans.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (6/11–6/27): Farcical fun in ancient Rome. This treat combines hysterical situation comedy from 2,000-year-old Roman playwright Plautus with vaudeville performance.
Most of the future reviewers for future shows are unable to post future reviews until the future, but Atlanta’s Theater Reviewers gave the 2007 version of the Atlanta Lyric Theatre’s Little Shop of Horrors four or more out of five in ratings, and the Rick Moranis-less play earned nine beloved Suzi Bass Award nominations in 2007–2008: > * This is one of my favorite musicals, so my expectations are always high. I get annoyed by directors who ignore the comic bits and stampede through the show just to get to the songs. This did not happen here. In fact, the director found even more bits, and most worked. The lighting design was absolutely incredible. – Jay Sherman, Atlanta’s Theater Review > * I highly recommend this show and encourage the Lyric to continue to produce at this level. – hlickman, Atlanta’s Theater Review
