Click above to buy $28 Dress Circle tickets to “Handel’s Messiah” on Dec. 3 at 8 p.m., or Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. Click on the links below for other shows and seating locations:

  • Buy here Dress Circle tickets to “A Very Merry Holiday Pops!” on Dec. 18 at 8 p.m., or Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Buy here main orchestra tickets to “ASO Gospel Christmas” on Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.

Score dress circle seats to the most musical music of the holiday season with today’s deal: $28 tickets to either “A Very Merry Holiday Pops!” or “Handel’s Messiah, or main orchestra level seats to the “ASO Gospel Christmas” shows at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (normal ticket prices for these shows range from $31 to $53, including a $6 Atlanta Symphony Orchestra surcharge). Seating for the first two concerts is in the dress circle, while “ASO Gospel Christmas” is main orchestra. You may purchase Groupons for each show, but will have to call 48 hours ahead to choose your show time and reserve your seats.

The 26-Grammies-and-counting ASO kicks off its holiday season with the ASO Chamber Chorus performing Handel’s Messiah on Dec. 3 and 5, rather than Handel’s less successful follow-up oratorio, Please Handel Don’t Hurt ‘Em. With Norman Mackenzie furiously wanding the conductor’s wand, the Chamber Chorus is sure to whip the crowd into a classic holiday frenzy. On Dec. 4 and 5, Conductor Chelsea Tipton and the ASO Gospel Choir will raise the roof with a more soulful set list during “ASO Gospel Christmas.” On Dec. 18 and 19, conductor Michael Krajewski, the Lassiter and Walton High School choruses, and one all-singing, all-dancing Santa Claus will play all your Christmas favorites at “A Very Merry Holiday Pops.”

With every flavor of Christmas music represented, except ribald novelty songs (sorry, “Dixie the No-Pantsed Elf”), this transcendently tuneful trio of concerts is a holiday activity the whole family can agree on (unlike the Hot Pockets vs. Lean Pockets debate, which remains a point of sore contention for many).

How to Talk Like a Symphony Buff

While attending the symphony, you may feel too nervous to talk to more seasoned symphony-goers. Here are some easy conversation starters to make you seem like the classical music buff you hope to become:

  • “The horn section is very accomplished. Often, their work sounded like drums.”
  • “The waving man in the front is distracting. He should perhaps be replaced by a beautiful, still woman or a statue of art.”
  • “I have set my phone to vibrate to induce synesthesia. Would you do the same?”
  • “The music clearly conveyed a moving story about the majestic folly of war or about a set of magical artifacts that granted wishes.”
  • “When are they playing Star Wars?”
